"They're out there protecting us each and every day and really giving their lives to help us," says Elizabeth Minor, mayor of Winchester.
She is talking about the men and women in uniform who help to protect people and even animals, saving lives on a daily basis and always working to make a difference.
City officials and law enforcement officers were acknowledged for their dedication at a special awards ceremony.
"I think it's an opportunity for everyone to see just how much the officers do, how much our volunteers do and just how very much we appreciate them," adds Minor.
Lisa Hyde, a detective and coordinator for the Timbrook Foundation won Employee of the Year. She was recognized for her work with children, contagious smile, tremendous work ethic, and for being one of the top detectives.
Aside from winning this award, she says another big honor of hers was having the opportunity to work with a memorable mentor before he passed.
"I got to work with Officer Timbrook especially when I first started in the police department. He was my training officer and to carry on his legacy because that was one of the most important things to him was to work with children," says Hydge.
Winchester Police Sergeant Ricky L. Timbrook was fatally shot in 1999 by a man he was chasing, and in November 2002, the Winchester Police Department dedicated their building in honor of him.
