WINCHESTER, VA- Some lucky seniors across the Shenandoah Valley got a special delivery from their mayors today.

For some seniors, having lunch at the local senior center is the highlight of their day. But those who are home-bound don't get to share the same special moments.

"If you've ever been hungry or anything like that having somebody to bring you a hot meal, it's great," says Thelma Shaw, a home-bound senior. "I can't express how nice I think it is, especially now that I can't stand to cook."

Local mayors went door to door, delivering meals to seniors who can't cook for themselves. It is a day to commemorate March for Meals through the SAAA.

"They are always so appreciative and it just makes you feel good to be able to do it," says Winchester Mayor, Elizabeth Minor.

While some sat back and shared stories of old. Others reminisced about family pictures, sharing their closest memories with their mayor. "I always wish there were more time though to visit with everyone because they just love to talk and share their stories and just have someone to visit," Minor says.

At least nine Virginia mayors participated in the march for meals in our area. They hope to raise awareness about senior hunger.
