There's no snow days when it comes
to working at a hospital, especially at Frederick Memorial. Volunteers have
been up since
Volunteers from the hospital staff and community drove employees to and from work the entire day. Each driver told me they're comfortable driving in snow, and they're happy to help.
"It gives me satisfaction to be doing some good, while I'm having fun," says Sue Higgins, a volunteer driver.
But the employees getting picked up? Not so much.
"I think it's great. I mean they have to be here, so I'd like to help them be here," says Ray Wolfe, a volunteer driver.
Higgins says you have to know how your car handles weather conditions, so get to know it.
"Pick a spot where there's nothing around, slam on my brakes, gun my vehicle to see how it's going to respond with the snow that I got that day," says Higgins.
As far as weather conditions during the commute?
"This snow storm? Nothing," says Higgins.
She wasn't impressed.
"The pin indicates each bar is
a thousand hours," says Bill Ledman, a volunteer with
Bill Ledman has volunteered at
"They've got to take care of the patients," says Ledman.
He says on days like this, hospital employees pack a bag in case they stay the night.
"You don't know when the next emergency is or when the next ambulance comes in, so you need the nurses and staff to take care of them," adds Ledman.
So the next time you get a snow day--
"Thank you so much sweet heart," says a hospital employee who was driven to work.
