It happened around 9 a.m. on North Wayne Highway in Washington Township.
Fire officials say when they arrived at the house, the flames were coming from inside the attic.
The Waynesboro Fire Chief says the family was inside the house when they smelled something strange and called 911.
Luckily, all family members were able to get out safely.
Fire officials say they were able to keep the fire contained in the attic, and it took them about 20 minutes to put it out.
"It's probably a good thing it was an older house, because the beams in it are really heavy and it took a long time for them to ignite. So there was quite a bit of time to get it started," says Chief David Martin, with the Waynesboro Fire Department.
Fire officials ruled the cause of the fire to be electrical.
