HAGERSTOWN, MDIf you are looking to purchase a new kitchen or heating appliance in Maryland, state officials say this is the weekend to do so.

Comptroller Peter Franchot came to Hagerstown to announce tax-free weekend on Energy Star appliances.

He was joined by local political and business leaders, and all of them are encouraging residents to take advantage.

This weekend offers tax breaks on certain Energy Star products, including refrigerators, washers and dryers. The special runs from this Saturday at 12 a.m. until 12 a.m. next Monday.

"Actually, it's a lot back because the manufacturers have rebates, the utility company has a significant incentive as well," says Franchot "We're talking 30 to 40 percent savings on big ticket items."
