HAGERSTOWN, MD- The Humane Society of Washington County has a new executive director.

Michael Lausen officially began his new position on Monday. Lausen was previously the Operations Manager for the Humane Society of El Paso in Texas.

He says with his love for animals and experience from his prior post, he's looking forward to his new duties of saving pets in Washington County.

"I would really like to see us improve on our fostering capabilities to be able to rehome as many animals as possible," says Lausen. "We want to increase the number of active volunteers, that we have here in the community to work towards improving relationships with our business partners."

Lausen is a former Police K-9 Officer, volunteer firefighter, and military veteran.
