Thurmont Teen Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter

THURMONT, MD - Police say a Thurmont teenager plead guilty Thursday to manslaughter after leaving the scene of an accident that killed his friend last January.
Police say Seth Fisher, 19, was driving drunk and recklessly in the early morning hours of January 14, 2012 on Black Road when his truck flipped over and his friend, Brandon Herbert, was ejected from the vehicle.
Herbert's body was found lying along the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Police say broken glass, tire tracks and debris, along with information from Hebert's family, lead them to Fisher's home.
Maryland State Police say they found Fisher inside his house with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
On Thursday, Fisher pleaded guilty to manslaughter by motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but eight months of the sentence suspended.
Court officials say the first two months of jail time will be spent at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center. The remaining six months will be served at home, due to Fisher's ongoing need for medical treatment and surgeries.
Fisher will also serve five years of supervised probation, including abstaining from alcohol.
Court officials say if Fisher violates any of the terms he could be sent to prison to serve the rest of the 20-year sentence.
