FREDERICK COUNTY, MD - Officials have released new information regarding a police involved shooting that left a man dead in Mount Airy.

Officials with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office say further investigation revealed that Daniel Vail did point a loaded shotgun at two of their deputies, who then fired 18 rounds of shots when Vail refused to put down the weapon.

Deputies were helping Howard County Police serve a high risk search and seizure warrant at an apartment on Westwind Drive last week when it happened.

The warrant was related to a home invasion robbery.

As policy, both deputies are still on administrative leave.

Comments

An autopsy could reveal the position he was in when shot, the trajectory of the wound could determine if his arm was raised...further if someone was pointed a gun at one of my family members I would want the police to empty their weapons to protect my loved ones, those officers are someone's loved ones and family and want to make it home to them. Monday morning quarterbacking solves nothing, lets stop questioning what the men and women who lay their lives on the line everyday, in all types of weather and holidays to protect us and start placing the responsibility on the person who is breaking the law and presenting a public safety risk.

See you already asked my question, Mark M. Perhaps the same way an audit would show an embezzler wore tennis shoes? Pathology has apparently come a LONG way.
