Two draft proposals were considered. County Commissioners voted 3-1 for Draft Proposal Number Two.
The changes will take place starting July 1st. Starting then, the Director of Fire and Rescue Services, Thomas Owens, will hold the rank of Fire Chief.
This makes him fully responsible for all Fire and Rescue System Management in Frederick County.
"The Fire Service in Frederick County now is a $50 million fire service with 335 paid firefighters," says County Commissioner Blaine Young. "So we want volunteerism, we need volunteerism."
The proposals were made in cooperation with a committee of the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.
