After a student was hit by a car while walking across campus, Shepherd University officials decided to build an underpass to make sure it never happens again.
They raised the road ten feet and dug another ten feet to build it. Officials say there's enough natural light during the day and ensure it'll be well lit during the night.
"I helped secure some federal dollars to get the project off the ground," says Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, (R) W.Va. "When I see it today it's a bigger project than I thought."
The total cost to build the underpass was about $5.6 million.
