Three People Taken To Hospital After Pitbull Attack

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office the incident was reported at about 4:00 p.m. Sunday when two pit bulls, a three month old male and a three year old male, were fighting near the 200 Block of East Avenue.
Hagerstown police say they located the dogs and cornered them in a yard. One of the dogs lunged at an officer and bit the officer in the right leg. The officer then shot once at the attacking dog in self defense. Police say the bullet struck the dog in the back and continued on striking the second dog in the mouth.
Officials say three residents, two females and a male, were bitten then taken to Meritus Medical Center with injuries. The officer did not require any medical treatment.
The Washington County Humane Society transported the injured dogs to Mountain View Emergency Vets in Hagerstown.
The two dogs have since been put down and will be tested for rabies. The matter remains under investigation.
