FREDERICK, MD - One thousand families in need got the fixings for a thanksgiving meal Tuesday afternoon for free.
The Frederick Community Action Agency organized the event. The line was so long it went around the Harry Grove Stadium.
The needy got a turkey, canned vegetables, mashed potatoes, and stuffing.
"It's a very important event in the City of Frederick this year especially because it shows that we are reaching out to our needy population," said Carol Krimm, (D), Frederick alderman.
Volunteers and elected officials say they came out to make sure everyone has something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
"I want to help them out because I feel really, really bad for them because they don't have food, and they don't have a lot of money to buy food," said Ty Grob, an eight-year-old volunteer.
The Frederick Community Action Agency will also serve a free Thanksgiving dinner this Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
