Thanksgiving Came Early Thanks to One Hagerstown Church

HAGERSTOWN, MD- For many, Thanksgiving is about enjoying a warm meal while being surrounded with loved ones, but what if you couldn't afford a meal?

"Unfortunately I could not purchase a turkey nor a ham or the dressing, string beans and corn and mashed potatoes like I got here and a lot of love," says Mollie Wood, who's thankful for the Thanksgiving dinner.

Fifteen years ago, Soul Food Ministries decided to take action to make sure the homeless didn't spend another holiday without a warm meal.

"I started in the trunk of my car with my wife and she died in 2010," says Carol Booker, with Soul Food Ministries. "I carried on feeding the homeless and it all started with bagged lunches."

"For them to contribute a dinner like this, words can't explain," says George Robinson, who's thankful for the Thanksgiving dinner.

Soul Food Ministries has grown significantly now feeding up to 400 people in a single day.

Although the celebration is a few days before the actual date, some residents say it's all about the love and not so much the date on the calendar.

"We're all called to help one another and if it wouldn't be for someone helping me, I would never be where I'm at now, so in return I try to serve."

This is the fourth annual dinner hosted by Soul Food Ministries.
