"This state-level award is for the superintendent who is most involved in championing Relay for Life involvement in his/her school system," says Laurie Frey, American Cancer Society, Inc. South Atlantic Division community manager, in a press release.
Relay for Life events are held across the country to offer healing, comfort and support for those who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease.
According to Michael Doerrer, Dr. Alban's efforts to mobilize FCPS and the wider Frederick community help ensure that crucial resources go to the battle to end cancer. As a result of Dr. Alban's support, FCPS involvement has grown from nine to seventeen participating schools.
