HAGERSTOWN, MD - At a local breakfast forum the spotlight was on the two nominees for mayor of Hagerstown. Republican incumbent, Bob Bruchey and Democrat, David Gysberts.

While both candidates are Hagerstown natives with a passion to improve the community, Bruchey and Gysberts come from a different set of experiences.

Bruchey is serving his third term as Mayor.

"I believe Hagerstown is ready for great things. One final push in the right direction and then we can realize what the city of Hagerstown can become," says Bruchey.

Gysberts is a counselor who has been actively involved in the community.

"Being a school counselor, being in charge of academic programs at the high school, being a mediator around a common vision, that's why I'm in this," says Gysberts.

The forum covered  issues from the development of downtown properties to growing local businesses. One of the questions addressed was how to reverse the recent trend of businesses leaving the city.

"I believe the answer is to put feet on the street. You do that by creating a destination. That's what we need to do," says Bruchey.

"We had a program called House Key's for Employees and I think we should look at that. Get city employers back living in town to create more demands for goods and services," says Gysberts.

Two men with a plan to improve Hagerstown and in return are hoping for the same thing, your vote.
