Police responded to the gas station located at 5608 Buckeystown Pike for a reported suspicious package.
The cardboard package was on the curb along Rt. 85. Police do not know how long the package was there.
As a precaution, an explosives technician from Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and an FBI special agent with explosive expertise, responded to examine the package.
The gas station and the Sheetz along with other businesses in the immediate area were directed to evacuate while the search occurred.
Buckeystown Pike was closed in both directions while emergency responders blew the package up. The lanes have since re-opened.
Officials found a large, dense block of roadway asphalt. The incident is still under investigation.
