Local Congressman Talks Sequester Impact on Education

Like many stories, one sticking out in the minds of many is the effects of the sequestration and its possible impacts on education.
Congressman Van Hollen says many grades will be impacted.
"It
will hit K through twelve funding from title one cuts, and it will also have an
impact on higher education," says Congressman Chris Van Hollen, of
Congressional leaders failed to reach a compromise to avoid automatic spending cuts of $85 billion, mostly hitting the economy and military.
"It will have a very negative impact on the area of education, which of course is incredibly short sight, I mean here we are at a school and I think all of us recognize we need to invest in our kids and their future," says Van Hollen.
Schools officials say it's too early to tell what could happen.
"Anytime we loose money our teachers are asked to deal with less and we've been in right budget times in the past. Our teachers rise for the occasion and you know we do the best with the tools we haven," says Kate Krietz, Thurmont Elementary School Principal.
Congressman Van Hollen says if the sequester remains throughout the year, there will be 750,000 fewer American jobs.
