A car wash at the Frederick Shell along West Patrick Street is just one of the fundraisers for the Lillard family, who lost six-year-old Sophie and three-year-old Madigan in the fire last week.
"They are so humbled and comforted by the outpouring of love and giving the community has given to them. It's difficult for them to come on and tell you this, so I'm standing in the gap for them right now," says Debbie Williams, the family spokesperson.
100 percent of the proceeds from the car wash will be donated to the family, along with five cents from every gallon of gas.
"It makes me feel very good that I'm able to help, but it's the whole community that comes together over and over again. It's just such a blessing to live here in Frederick," says
Joe Parsley, the owner of Frederick Shell.Williams runs the Patty Pollatos Fund and is also raising money for the family.
"The family is doing as well as anybody can expect," Williams says. "Unless you have lost a child, you don't totally understand the devastation that's been put on this family. If you have, then you can pray with more compassion. This family has asked for nothing but prayer."
The community has placed stuffed animals, balloons, and flowers outside the Lillard's home. Neighbors put in two solar lights to represent the two little girls who died in the fire.
"I think it's amazing everything that's been donated and all the money that's been raised for the family," says Jamie Brigham, who put in the lights with her sister Kenzi.
"It's a sad loss for this whole neighborhood, so we just thought we could contribute a little bit," Kenzi Brigham says.
The community is contributing by tying white ribbons around trees outside what was the Lillard's home and leaving the two butterfly solar lights so the memory of Sophie and Madigan can shine at night.
