MARTINSBURG, WV - It was a slow-moving day in court. The first witness, Casey Feezle, took the stand. He was the 12-year old son at the time of abuse.

According to court and police records, Casey is one of 82 witnesses who could be called to testify throughout this trial.

Before Casey's testimony, the jury listened to opening statements. The Prosecutor said the common thread in this case is that each of the four victims say "school was a safe place without bullies," and that they were living with the "mean girl," their mother Christina, and the "bully," their step-father Nathan at home.

She says the kids learned to live in fear and it took years before they reported abuse to CPS. The defense countered this and said the kids are "making most of this up," especially because they are unable to remember much detail of the abuse. The defense says they're prepared to show pictures of birthday parties and family cook-outs as evidence.

The defense continued to show video of one of the homes the family lived in during this alleged abuse. Casey pointed out the gravel road he says Nathan and Christina made he and his siblings run barefoot laps on. He said food was locked up and he was beaten regularly at home; but when asked to describe in detail, many times he said "I don't remember."

Again, Nathan and Christina Snyder are collectively charged with 18 felony counts of child abuse causing bodily harm for abusing their four youngest children.

They were indicted in 2010 and are being tried together. The court expects this case to run between two and three weeks.
