HAGERSTOWN, MD- While some businesses in Hagerstown have been robbed repeatedly recently, one bar was robbed Tuesday night, for the first time in years. The bartender who was there alone says she was terrified.

"It was shocking," says another bartender, Patricia Winters. "We haven't had a robbery in the three and half years I've worked here."

The bartender who faced the robbers was too scared to speak on camera.

It was a slow night Tuesday at the bar, and she was the only one there. That's when two men with their faces covered entered the bar around 11 p.m. and demanded money. Before leaving, they told her that if she called police, they'd return and hurt her.

But she didn't have to call for help because an officer on patrol spotted the suspects leaving on South Potomac Street.

"The suspects came out of the business running," says Police Chief Mark Holtzman. "He immediately gave chase, radioed for more backup to come and the police officers actually arrived on the scene before the victim was even able to call 911."

The bar has 13 surveillance cameras inside and outside the building, but when the suspects burst in the bartender was sitting away from the monitors, and was caught completely off-guard.

The robbers got away with more than $400.

Police don't know if the same suspects are responsible for more than one crime in the area.

If you have any information about this robbery, contact the Hagerstown Police Department at (301)-790-3700.
