Stomping Out Hunger One Meal at a Time

Diana and Daniel Wall say a missionary trip to El Salvador changed their lives. They describe young children walking for hours to a cramped feeding program just for a small bite, if even that, to eat.
"They would stand there. The older ones would always stand behind the younger ones and watch them eat, because they knew they had to take care of them, that was their responsibility, mom and dad are not around anymore. So sometimes they would walk miles and miles, and not get anything to eat themselves," remembers Daniel.
They decided to make a change: Soon after coming home they kicked off the program called "Kidz Power Pacs" (KPP), helping feed kids in need at Jefferson and Berkeley County schools.
"To know that you're helping feed these children, it's just God's vision of bringing everybody together. Everybody's heart of course goes to a child, so it's amazing to see," says Diana Wall, President of Community Combined Ministries, Inc., and volunteer with KPP.
In schools it's anonymous, and program leaders say they this donated food is not taken from food banks. Each week volunteers pack kid-friendly meals for students to bring home over the weekend, holiday breaks, and during the summer.
"It's not just feeding children, but it's bringing the community together and uniting everybody to help one another," adds Diana.
They say it's incredible to know that less children will go hungry.
"Hunger is going without to the point where it does affect your mindset, your skill levels, your ability to think when you're in school, especially for these children," says Daniel.
Yet they remind us, the need to feed is out there and it's growing.
