Scene Cleared After Suspicious Package

WINCHESTER, VA - The Winchester Police were called to the Food Lion on Valley Avenue Friday morning for the report of a suspicious package.
Police say it happened around 11:30 a.m.
The Virginia State Bomb Squad was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Police say Food Lion and the China House II restaurant were evacuated to ensure the safety of employees and patrons.
The Bomb Squad x-rayed the package and found that there was nothing suspicious inside. They say the package was metal and appeared to be homemade.
Police say the scene was cleared and the two stores were reopened around 3 p.m.
