West Virginia State Police say the search came to an end Saturday when they found the body of Billie Eugene Smith, 86, of Cumberland, Md., in Mineral County, W. Va., with his vehicle that had caught on fire.
Smith was pronounced dead on scene by a Mineral County medical examiner after a call was received by two hunters concerning a vehicle along Schell Road off Route 50.
Maryland State Police say Smith had left his home around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, but had failed to pick up a family member at the Country Club Mall at 5 p.m.
Police say Smith was last seen driving his dark blue 2002 Dodge Dakota pick-up near the 12000 block of Cash Valley Road in Cumberland, Md.
The case is currently still under investigation, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
