CUMBERLAND, MD - The city of Cumberland welcomed its new council members Monday. They say they're ready to take on a new chapter of economic development.

"Obviously economic development is a huge issue for the city," says councilman David Caporale. "We have a new five-point plan in place."

The new council members say they support the city's current economic development plan, with initiatives geared towards the new healthcare development corridor and establishing more higher education opportunities in the area.

"I like that we're actually identifying some of our strengths within the community and trying to build upon those," says councilwoman Nicole Wagoner.

Caporale says development of the Rocky Gap casino has already drawn more interest from businesses.

"I think we have actually seen some noticeable change of businesses looking into the area since the announcement," he says. "Anything we can do to keep companies staying. I think that was one of the things we may have lost sight of over the years."
