HAGERSTOWN, MD - After last year's mild winter, skiers and snowboarders have been waiting months for this day.

"Just as we are anxious to get open they're anxious to get out there," says Katrina Gayman, Whitetail Resort.

Staff are also busy preparing by making snow.  The recent eight inches of natural snow looks like a good sign.

"Last season was definitely a frustrating and struggling season just because we would have cold days and then several warm days," says Gayman. "The season was very short we were only open 66 days."

Judith Besnainou just got her skis tuned for the season and she's hoping the slopes will be open the full 90-plus days.

Besnainou says, "I'm looking forward to a lot of snow more than last year and just fun down the slopes and no injuries."

An avid skier, she goes to Whitetail every weekend in the winter with her family, but this weekend will be a memorable one.

Her family is visiting from France.

"Snow is something that fascinates, always children," says Xavier Cabrera, French Visitor. "Everybody's fascinated by snow."

The beginner terrain will first open on Friday at 8:30 a.m. and gradually all trails should be open in two weeks time.

"With the temperature that we have now I think we're on the right track," says Gayman. "I think we're going in that direction and I do anticipate that our January and February will be totally different than last year. I think we're going to see a lot more cold and even some natural snow events."

The ski resort says temperatures in the teens are ideal for snow making.

"It's like the color of paradise, you know?" says Cabrera. "All white."
