Santa's Helpers Collect Gifts at Fountaindale Elementary

HAGERSTOWN, MD -  Santa has some helpers at work in Hagerstown at Fountaindale Elementary School.
They've collected gifts for families in need, all through a plan they came up with on their own.

They're trimming this tree for CASA, which helps families in crisis.
They're escaping domestic violence and other issues, and it means a difficult holiday season.

"I think it would be a horrible Christmas, they probably don't get a lot of toys like we usually do," says 2nd grader Jackie Boese. "Now I think they're going to be overjoyed with all these toys."

The kids collected toys, books and necessities like clothing and canned food.

The three second-grade classes at Fountaindale set their goal at 300 items. But after a huge student and community response, in just 10 days of collecting, they now have more than 700 gifts to give.

"I'm feeling really great and proud of my class because we went over our goal," says 2nd grader Audrey Miller.

The second-graders chose community problems they wanted to fix. They saw a lack of safe toys, basic need items, and warm clothing for the winter, and made a plan to help.

The school will be giving the gifts to CASA tomorrow on Friday so they can wrap them up for Christmas.
