" said Nathan, a Senior at Shepherd University. State Police are continuing with the investigation. Officials also said all three victims were from Grant County, which is about 3 hours away from Hagerstown. The following is the original story, which aired on Saturday, September 2nd, 2006 at 11 p.m. "The shooter was a male that involved two other males," said Trooper KW Martin of the West Virginia State Police. The incident turned out to be a murder suicide. A father shot and killed his two sons before fatally shooting himself in the chest. "We believe that there was no sign of altercation prior to the shooting," said Martin. Officials said the shooting happened around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon behind a dormitory parking lot. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found 49-year old Douglas Pennington and his two sons who are students at the university, 26-year-old Logan and 24-year-old Benjamin dead on the ground. Shepherd University President David Dunlop released the following statement saying. "We are stunned to hear about this terrible tragedy. The West Virginia State Police are handling this case. We want to emphasize that there is no continuing threat to any other students. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims." Students who attend Shepherd said the incident was a shock to them, but they are not feeling threatened. "Just because this happened behind my building doesnt mean I dont feel any more scared. It could happen anywhere at any place," said DJ Fredman, a freshman. "I believe this is an isolated incident, its a family incident. I dont believe theres anything to be concerned about as far as other students here at Shepherd," said Martin. Counseling services will be available for students at Shepherd, and classes are expected to remain on schedule. The father was visiting his sons from Grant County, West Virginia.
