He is being remembered as a loving brother, son and friend. His brother, Joseph Higgins, said that "He died doing what he wanted to do for this country." Joseph and Melinda Higgins always looked up to their big brother. While he may have been known as Lance Corporal James Higgins to his comrades in the Marines, to them he was simply James. James Higgins sister Melinda said that "Whenever he would smile or laugh he would have dimples and that no matter how serious and how strong he was a kid with those dimples." Family and friends gathered at the Stauffers funeral home in Thurmont, Maryland sharing memories and hugs of comfort. Melinda and Joseph said their brother is just one of many soldiers whove made the ultimate sacrifice. Its something they hope others will always remember. Joseph Higgins commented that it was his "brothers number one fear, that if the worst were to happen that the public would forget. Just never forget." Melinda sadly stated that "Well always be the three Higgins kids; well always be us three. Hes just watching over us now." Viewings will be held again Thursday afternoon from two to four p.m. and Thursday night from seven to nine. Corporal Higgins will be buried Friday with full military honors at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick at 11 a.m. Reported by Amie McLain amclain@nbc25.com" First Day of School Pushed Back in Frederick County,1154640476,1154640476," FREDERICK COUNTY, MD- Kids in Frederick County will have a couple extra days to savor summer vacation.
