Maryland State Police said they found 49-year-old Gerald James Hansford of Cumberland just after 10:30 a.m. His body was lodged on rocks in the middle of the Potomac River about a quarter of a mile downstream from where he was last seen.
Investigators said he and a group of friends were drinking and swimming in the area when he disappeared. Officials do not suspect foul play in the case, but will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
