Frederick County Man Arrested in Online Soliciting Case

By: Import User
Updated: February 6, 2007
Pretending to be a child surfing the internet, officers in St. Lucie County, Florida, said they came across 33-year-old David Dantzic. "He was communicating with someone in a chat room on the internet, and that turned out to be the detective," said Lt. Thomas Chase, Frederick Police Department. Detectives turned to the Frederick City Police Department for help. "This is not a Frederick County-Montgomery County case or a Frederick County-Baltimore County case, this is a Frederick-Florida case," said Chase. For prosecutors its tough, you have your victim in Florida and your suspect living in a Frederick County home. For neighbors its different. Theyre forced to re-evaluate just who is living next door. "I think a lot of times the expectation is when you do talk to somebody, ‘oh I know all about them, and I found out many times that you dont," said Norman and Loretta Covert, next door neighbors. The Coverts have known Dantzic for years and said they watched officers seize his computer in disbelief. "Its that way in neighborhoods now, with so many people working, about the only time you see your neighbors is when youre shoveling snow," said the Coverts. "Everyones life has the public, private, the secret; certain elements that they think are secret, depending on what they communicate. How they communicate and what they do is against the law," said Chase. A communication that was illegal and unexpected. "You just have to be aware of that and not be so naive and to think you can live next door to somebody or down the street from somebody and know all about them," said the Coverts. Dantzic is considered a fugitive in Florida. Dantzic refused to waive extradition. He is being help without bond until they set a date.
