Train Hits Car; One Person Dead

By: Import User
Updated: February 6, 2007
Misty Beers, 19, from Greencastle was driving eastbound on Milnor Road with Jessie Hykes, 26, from Waynesboro. Beers car was struck by a Norfolk Southern Freight Train. Hykes died and Beers was flown to York Hospital. According to Pennsylvania State Police, the car was impacted at the railroad crossing. Beers red Chevy Cavalier was pushed up the tracks by the train about 800 feet, damaging a mechanical switch on the tracks. The accident closed down the tracks for close to two hours Tuesday morning. Crews have been out working on the tracks and repairing the switch. When state police arrived on the scene, Beers was out of the car and was being treated by emergency service workers. Hikes had to be cut out of the vehicle. NBC25 spoke with neighbors who said the scene is all too familiar. Last November, Keith Laman was driving a milk tanker across the same crossing when he was hit by a train. Neighbors complain that a building and bushes obstruct peoples view of the tracks. They said its time for officials to put up a safety gate or at least warning lights. Reported by Gretchen Gailey" Storms Knock Out Power to Thousands,1153335341,1153335341,
