Franklin County is one of 15 areas given federal disaster designation by President Bush and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Governor Ed Rendell announced last night that Franklin County residents are now eligible for grants towards temporary housing, home repair, home replacement and permanent housing construction.
The grants will benefit those who are un-insured or under-insured. Local representatives hope Pennsylvanians will take advantage of the assistance.
"The word we have to get out now is to people have to register through the 800 number or online or through the FEMA website. It may take awhile, the lines will be busy. It will be to their advantage to continue to call," said Jerry Flash, Franklin County Emergency Management Agency.
The emergency management agency and FEMA are setting up disaster recovery centers across the state. Victims can also apply for assistance over the phone or online.
FEMA toll free number is: 1-800-621-fema (3362)
