Recent Armed Robberies May Be Related, Police Say

By: Import User
Updated: February 6, 2007
Hagerstown Police believe last weeks two armed robberies are related; one at a Taco Bell and another at a KFC on the Dual Highway. The first robbery at the KFC happened last Thursday. After 11 p.m. a black man with a medium build and a tattoo on one arm walked in with a gun and assaulted an employee and got away with cash. Less than 24 hours later and only 100 yards away, two black males in their 20s wearing black clothes entered through a back door at the Taco Bell. They threatened employees with guns and took cash. "With any of these crimes they are looking for a crime of opportunity and theyve determined this is an easy target for them," said Sgt. Paul Kifer, from the Hagerstown Police Department. "They are monitoring these businesses but they see employees coming out the back door emptying the trash, not locking the door behind them, and it makes it easy to get in," said Kifer. Similarities in the description of the suspects in both robberies have police encouraging other fast food chains to take more safety precautions. "Right now it appears that they are targeting the restaurant after they have closed and they are just taking advantage of that when they are taking the trash out," said Kifer. "They are looking for them to leave the door unlocked out back or looking at drive through windows being open; whatever any kind of access to the restaurant after hours," said Kifer. Police are offering a $1000 cash reward for any information leading to an arrest of either suspect in this case. Hagerstown police dont believe any of the patrons at these restaurants are at risk but are still asking anyone with information to call them.
