The new shop at the corner of Potomac and Washington Streets caters to anyone with a sweet tooth and their four-legged friends. Inside, you will find everything from pastries to unique ice cream flavors, including pumpkin pie and grapenut. There are canine donuts and even cinnamon rolls for our furry friends. "There are specific bakeries for animals and there are specific bakeries and ice cream shops for people, but Ive not seen the two put together. So we decided, when youre walking around with your family and your children and your animals, your dogs, that they need to have treats too!" said Valerie Minteer, owner of Bones and Cones. For health reasons, animals are not allowed inside the shop. You can, however, take them around to a window, to order anything from ice cream to canine cookies. With the weather expected to be in the 90s this weekend, owners say they will have plenty of water outside for the pets. There is a grand opening on Saturday. There will also be contests for dogs and their owners. Meanwhile, downtown Hagerstown merchants will be holding a Shop Hop, offering one-time specials to customers. Its all in an effort to boost business on the weekends. "We are trying to increase the foot traffic downtown and let the general vicinity know that there are businesses open on the weekends downtown," said Minteer. To find stores participating in the "Shop Hop" just look for the colorful balloons outside their doors. By the way, Bones and Cones will be offering free sundaes to dads on Fathers Day. If you dont have a cat or dog to buy treats for, but would like one, the Humane Society will be on the square from 1 p.m. to 4 pm. on Saturday, June 17th with information on pet adoption.
