In a morning celebration, Community Commons along with the Chesapeake Bay Gateway Network unveiled their first Monocracy River marker for paddlers.
The information booth will help people understand the location and the history behind the river. The booth will also give paddlers information on what is ahead on their trail, things they will experience, and some safety guidlines.
Members of the community commons group said the event will help those understand why its important to keep the river clean.
"People need to be aware of the water quality and the natural resources that we have in Frederick County and in this whole Chesapeake Bay watershed, and they have to commit to being responsible," said Maggie Kline, President of Community Commons.
If you would like more information on the Monocacy River, you can contact the Community Commons Center in Frederick.
