Congratulations to the NBC Student Athletes of the Month for March, 2009.  Our male Student Athlete of the Month is Preston Hartman, a senior at Keyser High School.  A four-year letter winner in football and basketball, Preston led Keyser's football team to an undefeated regular season and recently scored his 1,000th career point for the Golden Tornado basketball team.

“My mom's been a schoolteacher for a while,” says Preston. “She gets on me pretty hard about grades.   I take a lot of college classes, so that makes it a little challenging.”

Off the field, Preston carries a 3.8 G.P.A., and is an active member of High Y, the Grid Iron Club, and Calvary United Methodist Church.  After high school, Preston plans to continue his basketball career before getting into the family business.

“I'm going to play basketball at Potomac State and major in journalism, then go to law school at West Virginia University.  My pap's a lawyer, so I’m going to follow in his footsteps.”

Our female student athlete of the month is Christine Kantner, a senior at Washington County Technical High School.  Christine plays soccer and tennis for the South Hagerstown Lady Rebels, and was selected to be a captain of the soccer team this season.

“Someone who tries their hardest in sports to be the best they can be, but still realizes that school comes before everything else, no matter what,” says Christine.

Christine maintains a 3.95 G.P.A. in the medical occupations program, participates in student government, and competes in medical math competitions.  After high school, Christine hopes to study bio-chemistry and go to medical school.

“Monday through Friday is school and sports only, that's it.  Saturday and Sunday are my free days.”

Congratulations to Preston Hartman and Christine Kantner, The NBC 25 student athletes of the month for March 2009.
