Man Accused of Shooting Correctional Officer Indicted for Murder

By: Import User
Updated: January 22, 2008
Brandon Morris, 20, has been indicted on 36 various counts including first degree premeditated murder for the death of corrections officer, Jeffery Wroten. Investigators said on the morning of January 26th, Morris attempted to escape from correctional officers after being transported to Washington County Hospital for an injury. There he allegedly shot officer Wroten with the officers handgun and fled the scene in a stolen taxi cab. Morris was taken back into custody shortly after fleeing the hospital. The charges against him include assault, escape, robbery, kidnapping, and a number of weapons charges. Prosecutors appeared to be laying the groundwork to go after the death penalty. "We will be consulting with the family for the victims. We will be assessing the case but at this point, it is a death eligible case. We have not ruled out the death penalty," said Charles Strong Jr., States Attorney for Washington County. One of the more surprising charges that were brought was kidnapping, and not just of the taxi cab driver. The indictment states that the mother of a hospital patient was kidnapped sometime that morning. Prosecutors are being tight lipped on details. They said that more will come out in the trial.
