MARYLAND- The Maryland Senate voted to decriminalize being caught with small amounts of marijuana on Tuesday.

Under the Senate bill, people caught with up to 10 grams of marijuana will not face jail time, and instead receive a $100 fine in Civil Court.

The Senate voted in favor of the bill 30 to 16. The current law puts people behind bars up to 90 days along with a $500 fine.

The bill passed its third reading on Tuesday and will now be sent to the House of Delegates.

One of the people to vote in favor of the bill is Frederick County Senator David Brinkley. Brinkley, a two-time cancer survivor, sponsored a medical marijuana bill during last years session.
