Highlights from Shepherd sweeping Davis & Elkins on the diamond Tuesday afternoon.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University swept Davis & Elkins in WVIAC baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Tuesday afternoon. Shepherd gained an 8-2 triumph in game one and added a 5-3 win in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the second inning in game one behind a two-run single by senior outfielder Jake Cook (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's) and an RBI-double from senior catcher Chad Murphy (North Olmsted, OH/North Olmsted).
The Rams added a run in the third as freshman designated hitter Tyler Thomas (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge) reached on a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior outfielder Michael Lott (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge).
The Senators got on the board in the fourth on a solo blast by Matt Moceri.
Shepherd took a 6-1 lead in the fifth behind a two-run single by junior infielder T.J. Weisenburg (Hedgesville, WV/Martinsburg).
Davis & Elkins added a run in the sixth as Matt Barr led off with single and scored on a ground out by Mike Mroz.
The Rams added a pair of runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Thomas.
Cook, Murphy, and freshman third baseman Mark McCormick(Centreville, VA/Centreville) each had a pair of hits for Shepherd.
Moceri went 3-for-3 and Bryant Hines added two hits to pace the Senators.
Junior pitcher Paul Hvozdovic (Herndon, VA/Herndon) (5.0 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 2 Ks, 0 BB) earned the win to improve to 2-2 for the Rams. Freshman reliever Ryan Pansch (Charles Town, WV/Washington) (2 H, 1 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) worked the final two innings. Senator starter Kyle Crist took the loss.
The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap after Anthony Ragos led off with a double and was plated on a sacrifice fly by Lance Vannoy.
Shepherd answered back in the bottom of the first as Lott doubled, stole third, and scored on a single by Cook.
The Rams took a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second. Junior infielder Brandon Coffey (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) walked and later scored on a single by Lott. McCormick reached on single and scored on a passed ball.
The Rams added two more runs in the fifth behind as Coffey and McCormick each drove in a run.
The Senators scored a pair of runs in the sixth as Moceri hit a solo homer and Brad Banzoff added an RBI-single.
Lott went 3-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases to pace the Rams.
Senior pitcher Josh McCauley (Mercersburg, PA/James Buchanan) (5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 7 Ks, 2 BB) gained the win to improve to 2-3. Sophomore reliever Brian Martin (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) (1.0 IP, 1H, 0 K, 0 BB) worked the seventh and picked up the save. Marcus Warner took the loss for Davis & Elkins.
Shepherd improves to 4-8, 2-0 in conference action, while Davis & Elkins falls to 4-8, 1-3. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
