Emmitsburg, Md. (February 21, 2013)--Rashad Whack scored 26 points to lead Mount St. Mary's to an 83-71 win over LIU Brooklyn on Thursday night at Knott Arena.  The Mountaineers have won four games in a row and six of their past seven to move to 13-13 overall and 8-7 in the Northeast Conference.

Trailing 52-48 with 12:25 remaining, the Mount went on a 24-to-8 run over the next 7:18 to take a 72-58 lead.  Sam Prescott started the run with a jumper ahead of a Kelvin Parker three-pointer that evened the score at 53-53.  Whack then scored the Mount's next eight points for a six-point advantage with 8:27 left in the game.

Julian Norfleet added a three-pointer, Raven Barber a dunk, Kristijan Krajina a lay-up, and Shivaughn Wiggins capped the spurt with four free throws to make it 72-58 with 5:07 left.  The Mount led by double figures the rest of the way.

Whack went 8-for-15 from the field while adding a 6-for-10 night from three-point range in the win.  Wiggins chipped in 13 points and four rebounds while Sam Prescott finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.  Norfleet had a solid all-around effort with nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals for the Mountaineers in the victory.

Freshman E.J. Reed led LIU Brooklyn (15-12, 10-5 NEC) with 25 points and nine rebounds while C.J. Garner chipped in 20 points.

The Mount outscored LIU Brooklyn 45-29 in the second half.  The Mountaineers converted 20-of-21 (.952) at the foul line, tying for the fifth-best single-game free throw percentage in school history.

Mount St. Mary's has now won a season-best four games in a row, and improves to 9-2 at Knott Arena this season.

The Mount hosts St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, February 23, at 3:30 p.m. in another key NEC contest.  It is the final home game of the season for the Mountaineers, who will honor seniors Oliver Brown and Raven Barber prior to the game.
