Body Worn Cameras Help With Officers' Duties

BERRYVILLE,VA - The chances of you being caught on camera in Berryville is now going up, especially if you get pulled over.

It might be mistakened for a bluetooth but instead, it is a tiny camera police are now using to help them with their jobs.

"They can attach it to a shirt pocket, or if you're not wearing a tie, right into the button area of their shirt and it records all the interactions that the officer has with anybody, any citizen, any traffic stop," says Berryville Police Chief, Neal White.

They are called body worn cameras, something they have been using for over two weeks.

"It's a way for us to use to help in prosecution of cases, DUI cases or other traffic-related manners. It's a way to record an interview with a suspect or a victim," adds White.

They said it is a way to record audio and video instead of memorizing necessary details.

"You have, again, a record of the event as it happened from the officer's perception so you're no longer pinning one person's word against another person's word; the viewer gets to make their own interpretation of what happened," adds White.

Not only will it make an officer's job more accurate and faster, it will also help resolve community issues.

New cameras were also installed in the police cars last week to replace older technology.

Please, do explain.... what exactly is "A Bluetooth"? Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances. I don't believe it's something you can see.
