CLARKE COUNTY, VA- Valentine's Day came a little early for seniors in Virginia, and they say they couldn't be happier or feel more loved.
"It keeps their spirits up," says Donna Evans, Director of Frederick County Active Living. "It gives them something to look forward to everyday and keeps them going," she adds.
Seniors from every center in the valley came to the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging's Valentine's Party. Each of them sported their favorite shades of red while singing and dancing to music of their heyday. But, the highlight of their program was the crowning of Valentine's kings and queens. That moment was especially touching for Lou Holmes.
After losing his wife two years ago, Holmes said he couldn't stand to be alone.
"But, instead I found the active living center in Jim Barnett Park," Holmes says. "And, it is fantastic," he adds.
Holmes was surprised to be voted king of the Winchester Center and he says he loves everyone there. "I always try to be polite and everything in my surroundings," he says. "I always try to like everybody."
Many of the seniors have lost their loved ones and spouses, but the SAAA, they say, has opened their hearts again and reminded them it's never too give a little love.
