JEFFERSON COUNTY, WV - After Sheriff Bobby Shirley submitted his resignation, Jefferson County Commissioners had to determine how to proceed in finding a replacement.
After a ruling from the Attorney General it was determined that the sheriff's position had to be through a job search scenario and not a special election.

"The way we are proceeding is we will post for a two week period in two local papers a job posting for sheriff of Jefferson County and accept applicants," says Dale Manuel, president of Jefferson County Commissioners.
Commissioners say finding a new sheriff will not happen right away.
"Unfortunately having worked in government it usually moves very slow. We have to do advertising for the position so it will probably be longer than a month," says Jefferson County Commissioner Jane Tabb.
While the selection is taking place Chief Jesse Jones is handling the daily duties of the sheriff.
