Downtown Frederick "Lights Up"

FREDERICK, MD- Let there be light! Especially in downtown Frederick where the view is brighter than ever.

"We've just finished this lighting project downtown and it's part of an overall revitalization in downtown Frederick. It was part of the public private partnership and we did with the downtown Frederick Partnership and the City of Frederick and the state of Maryland," says Richard Griffin of the City of Frederick.

27 new acorn style lights have been installed along Patrick Street for better illumination to the sidewalks.

"So we replaced these vehicular lights that shined down on streets but didn't make it down through the canopy of the trees. So they didn't illuminate the front of building very well," says Griffin.

"These lights are fantastic. I feel the lighting is going to attract many customers. It will make people want to come to Frederick and feel safe for them," says owner of Sweet Memories Christina Chase.

Mayor Randy McClement says the new lights are part of a larger effort to revitalize the area.
