Teen Pleads Guilty After Bullying Incident Caught on Camera

BRUNSWICK, MD- A Frederick County teen has pleaded guilty to second-degree assault charges after striking a high school sophomore in the head in front of a WHAG reporter.

The trial was set to be scheduled this Thursday out of Frederick County Court House, but the teen was able to reach a plea deal instead. Because it's a juvenile case, WHAG does not have details on the deal.

The incident happened last October when the unnamed teenager hit Preston Deener, 15, in the head while WHAG reporter Katie Kyros was preparing to interview him about bullying at Brunswick High School.

The incident happened across the street from the school. WHAG captured footage of the teen approaching Preston and then following him as he ran back to the school property.

Preston fled back to the school grounds because he was told previously to notify teachers if he was ever bullied.

The Frederick County Sheriff's Office said the investigation revealed this was an isolated incident and was found to be unrelated to any previous incidents involving the victim.
