A Miracle Baby Named Emma

BRUNSWICK, MD - In 15 years an infant becomes a high-schooler.

"I remember buying these hair barrettes for my sister, knowing one day that I would see her," says Juliet Pearrell, Emma's Mother.

Yet the bond between two sisters grew stronger, even though they were more than 1,000 miles apart.

"They were little Care Bear barrettes, and I carried them around. As a foster kid I didn't have many things; pretty much everything I had fit in a trash bag, but in that trash bag was a set of barrettes for my sister," says Juliet.

Juliet Pearrell lost her mother at 12 and ran away from an abusive father, leaving her one year-old sister, Jen, behind. She jumped between dozens of foster families until she found her "forever home," then finally reunited with her sister at their father's funeral, after 15 years.

"She'd been looking for me, and I'd been looking for her," says Juliet.

Juliet said her last foster parents showed her unconditional love.

"It doesn't matter if they're my biological parents, they love me," says Juliet.

This became the common thread: after facing infertility, Juliet gave birth to her daugther, Emma, using her sister's donated egg.

"I just think that a family's family. When you love somebody you love them and bring them into your family, that's all that matters," says Lester Pearrell, Emma's Father.

Now four and a half years-old, the family calls Emma their miracle baby, telling her how she was made for years.

"I explain to her that part of it was Aunt Jen, part of it was daddy, there was a whole lot of God, and the rest mommy took care of," explains Juliet, showing the palm of her hand.

Throughout loss and broken homes, then infertility, Juliet says she and her family have made it.

"Don't give up on relationships, on people, based off circumstances that you're going through, because things always change and people do change. Things do get better," says Juliet.
