WINCHESTER,VA - Their motto was "rain or shine!"

The United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley held its monthly Rubbermaid sale to help those who are enduring housing problems in the Winchester area.

Every year, the organization chooses a different agency to work the sale and this time it was "Help With Housing."

"We have a lot of people who, their rooms need to be repaired, we have a lot of people without heat, leaking pipes, and especially now, the weather's been so cold, a lot of freezing pipes, we even have some people who don't have indoor plumbing," says Paula Costello, executive director of the 'Help With Housing' agency.

"Help With Housing" is a nonprofit housing agency at the Northern Shenandoah Valley. They assist with low income homeowners, emergency home repairs and accessibility modifications.

Despite the weather conditions, around 100 to 300 people show up for the Rubbermaid products, a plastics company known for its durable containers.

"Rubbermaid takes their returns and their seconds and their overruns ,all kinds of stuff, puts it in the truck and donates it to the United Way. Then, a local agency of the Winchester-Frederick-Clarke area within that United Way group runs the sale and brings people in from their staff," says Todd Thompson, volunteer coordinator.

From mops to containers to trash bins, they were working to meet their goal of $6,000, a step closer to giving warmth in someone's home.

Proceeds will go towards those who need assistance in Frederick County, Page County, Clarke County and Warren County.
