WHAG - Every Wednesday, WHAG and Solider Fit honor a service member or veteran in our community. This week's hometown hero is Sgt. David Smith.

Sgt. Smith was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan in January 2010.  He joined the Marine Reserve in 2003, serving first in Iraq.

His friends and family say he loved life and living it to its fullest. He is remembered for a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh.

Friends and family say Sgt. Smith was a devoted soul who cared about everyone in his life and had a way of bringing out the best in each of them.

Most of all, Smith was a Marine and a patriot. He loved the Marine Corps., was honored and proud to serve his country, and was planning a military career after college.

You can help WHAG honor our nation's heroes, by clicking on "community," and then "Hometown Hero," on our website to send in your submission.
