FREDERICK, MD - Frederick's Carroll Creek is getting a multi-million dollar makeover.

Phase two of the $13 million improvement project will begin soon. It will include new walkways, bridges, and waterfalls. People will also see new landscaping along the Carroll Creek.

"This is such a destination for everybody, the creek, with the festivals and the Alive at Fives and the different special events. This will make it a larger place," says Roelkey Myers, deputy director of the Frederick Department of Parks and Recreation. "I would guess the Festival of the Arts might expand the number of artists they can have because we're basically doubling the area of the urban park."

Crews will widen paths along parts of the Carroll Creek. They're out now widening the Market Street entrance from 12 to about 30 feet. Myers hopes the changes bring more people to the area.

"You're going to see a lot of development along the creek all the way from the Delaplaine all the way to East Patrick Street," says Myers.

The improvements are expected to be completed in about 18 months.
