Navarro admitted to being in Ashley's Carpegna's apartment in March 2011 with two other men, but denied he had agreed to pay her for sexual favors.
Navarro says he remembers feeling something wasn't right when Carpegna kept looking out the window and told Cruz that they should leave.
He told the jury one of the men went in the bedroom with Carpegna and shortly after, Bennett jumped out of a closet demanding money.
Navarro said he put his hands up in self-defense when he saw Bennett with a gun. He says Bennett then hit him on the head with the gun and then shot Cruz.
Navarro ran out of the apartment because he was scared for his life and that's when he saw Bennett drag the body out.
But the prosecution has rested their case and hope to have a verdict on Wednesday.
Closing arguments will begin Wednesday morning.
